2020 Voting Trends

With Election Day less than a week away and debates over the credibility of mail-in voting continuing to dominate the news cycle, we surveyed our audience to better understand their plans for participating in the 2020 election. From voting in-person ahead of November 3rd to depositing ballots at secure drop boxes, we examine how Americans plan to exercise their civic duty by gender, generation, and political affiliation.

What is your plan for voting in the upcoming election?

35% of Americans are either voting in person before Election Day or mailing in their ballots. 28% will head to polls on Election day and 37% currently do not have a plan to vote.

Responses by Political Affiliation

Republicans are most likely to vote in person. Democrats are most likely to vote early. Independents and undeclared Americans are least likely to vote at all.

Older generations are more likely to vote early this year, while younger generations are evenly split between voting early and on Election Day. 54% of Gen Zers and 48% of millennials do not plan to vote in this election.

‘Fluent Pulse’ reflects a daily online survey collected across Fluent’s portfolio of owned & operated websites.

Who is the audience?

Fluent attracts a massive audience across its network of owned media properties. While all segments of the US population are represented, the below are our most prevalent demographic skews:

Data has been collected from U.S. adults on a daily or weekly basis, dependent upon topic, since March 10, 2020. All data is sourced from Fluent’s portfolio of owned and operated media properties. Results are specific to the Fluent audience and not reflective of the general U.S. population.
